Mount Ausangate (10D / 9N)

The Mount Ausangate is the most important mountain in the Cusco department and also the highest , the level is moderate and is possible to climb in 10 days mixing with the famous trek around the Ausangate you will have really a nice experience climbing one of the not frequented mountains. The climb developed over 10 days, this mountain require prior acclimatization, deshalb we offer a mix with this altitude trek.

ITINERARY

The itinerary is as follows:

DAY 1: Cusco – Tinki (3900m)

The journey begins in the morning in Cusco…we will pass the peaceful towns of the Vilcanota Valley until arriving to the Puerto Maldonado roadway; not a paved roadway…but has beautiful landscapes, after approximately 5 hours we will arrive to Tinki, a quiet town over 3900 meters above sea level; we will spend the night in a typical hostal.

DAY 2: Tinki - Upis (4300m)

We'll walk 5 hours with a moderate slope until to arrive to Upis, a small andean town close to the Ausangate glacier, there you can take a bath in the hot springs.

DAY 3: Upis - Hatunpucacocha (4600m)

5 hours walking, the slope is moderate until to arrive to the Arapa Pass (4800m); from there we'll walk down to Hatunpucacocha Lagoon where we will camp.

DAY 4: Hatunpucacocha - base camp ( 4800 m)

The most strenuous day trekking…we will cross two high passes… the first at 4900m…after which we will continue down to Lake Ausangate at 4400m…again we will walk up …to the Palomani pass (5180m)…from here it’s downhill to finally arrive to our base camp (4750m)…approx 7 hours walking today.

DAY 5: rest day

Acclimatize and rest all day…the staff will carry all the equipment and food to the moraine and first camp.

DAY 6: base camp - first camp (5700m)

5 am start….arriving at approx 2 pm a difficult route…the ascension towards the first camp is a steep and difficult slope; the passenger will carry only their small backpack (jacket, camera, water bottle, sunglasses, gloves)…the staff will prepare the route, on snow, to the first camp; a hard and long day …we will have a long rest at lunch in the moraine area…in front of the Mariposa and Chilenita glaciers the route on snow is moderate and we will walk for approx 3 hours to the first camp

DAY 7: first camp - attack the summit ( 6372m) - first camp

Very early start…3 am…we will arrive at the wall for sunrise; the snow-covered wall is stable and reliable…beginning at a 45 degree incline and concluding at 60 degrees…the guides set up the safety (fixed ropes) before our arrival, we will climb this wall in approx 2 hours; from this point it’s another 4 hours…we will arrive at the summit at approx 10 am after resting and enjoying the views…we will return to the first camp…approx 4 hours; the descent of the wall is through abseiling or rappelling.

DAY 8: First camp - base camp

It´s approx a 4 hour descent to base camp…here we will rest the remainder of the day.

DAY 9: base camp - Ninaparayoc lake

considered a moderate trek…we will cross the Campa pass (4950m); in this part of our trekk we will view numerous mountain ranges like: Nevado Pico tres, Callangate, Pucapunta, Collquecruz, and Campa approx a 5 hour walk to the Ninapàrayoc camp…wonderful lakes like Ninaparayoc and Comercocha can be viewed from this area.

DAY 10: Ninaparayoc - Pacchanta - Cusco

The final day…only a 4 hour walk to arrive at Pacchanta; we will celebrate the ascension with a typical lunch (pachamanca); after lunch, we will return to Cusco…arriving at approximately 7 pm.
